About Joining the Netherbane
Why is the guild so small?
It takes a rare sort to be a true demon hunter. Demon hunters are outcasts from their society. They are shunned from the population at large because of their pacts with darkness. Most common folk neither trust nor understand the demon hunter, and because of this, they are rare. The name Netherbane is used to refer to the group of those who follow the teachings of Tharion Greyseer who, in turn, follows the teachings of his late mentor, Eraelan Netherbane. The relationship between Shan'do Tharion Greyseer and his students is similar to the relationship between a sensei and his pupils, and this is why the group is kept small. There is currently only one shan'do to a handful of students. In addition to the in-character reasons for keeping the group limited, there are also the real life obligations that make running a guild difficult. The guild is kept small as much for reasons of leader sanity as it is for more lore-based reasons, and unless things change drastically in the future, the guild will remain small. It is just the way of things.
What does it take to join the Netherbane?
Read the Declaration of Identity on the Guild page of the site. It lays the foundation for what is expected of all future Netherbane members, and is the first gateway one must pass in order to become a member. Building upon that, you should also have a clear understanding that we are ultimately a casual guild. In addition to being small, we are rather busy people outside the world of Azeroth. Do not expect the same level of activity that you may see in a larger guild. We are not currently capable of that just yet. Raiding and PvP are not alien to us, and some of our members proudly participate in both of these activities. They are, however, not the focus of the Netherbane. Allow members the freedom to play as they choose. You will be expected to follow the long-standing Blizzard Roleplaying Policy if you are a member of the Netherbane. This means that you will maintain an in-character demeanor to the public as often as you are able. Closed channels such as /party, /whisper, /guild, and /raid are exceptions to this rule, however. In addition, you must meet the following requirements:
If you meet these requirements, or you believe that you should be considered outside of those requirements, then read on.
What's the process of bringing aboard new members?
If you understand us and still wish to join, you will answer the application posted on this page and follow the instructions there. Tharion can also be reached by an in-game mail (in-character or out-of-character) or an email. He can be very busy due to in-game responsibilities and out-of-game obligations, so please be patient. Once done, you will receive a response within a few days. If your application is determined to be suitable, an RP session will be scheduled and you will meet with at least one of the current Netherbane members both in-character and out-of-charater (OOC talk is in /party or a custom channel). Have an idea of why your character wants to join the Netherbane before these sessions even begin, and be clear on this point: the RP session is a chance for us to gauge your RP style and OOC manner and determine if they fit the guild. Multiple sessions may be scheduled to continue or conclude the in-character meetings and introductions. If your styles (both in-character and out-of-character) align with ours, you will face a simple lore test. It is given in-character, and is proof to the school that you have an understanding of the world around you. Failing this test does not bar one from acceptance, however, it is merely there to give us an idea of your lore knowledge. After that, you will have a formal acceptance into the guild. This is a simple affair, and is usually solely between Tharion and the new member. We have never been big on large ceremonies. If you application is not suitable, you will receive instead a PM in response explaining why and what may be done to re-apply. Note that the Netherbane is not for everyone, and everyone is not for the Netherbane. Please do not take it personally if you are not accepted. |
